Trattoria Gusto in Port Hope is a very pleasant surprise to find in a small town. The restaurant is in a lovely boutique hotel (The Waddel) and features a comfortable bar/lounge that is a great place to meet friends, read the paper and enjoy a glass of wine from a well thought out wine list. The dinning room is nicely done and they feature a lovely patio overlooking the Ganaraska river….right in the heart of downtown Port Hope. The food is excellent without being over the top. It is Italian as you can guess from the name. Their specialty thin crust pizza’s are excellent…great to share as an appetizer or to have as an entre. Of the pasta’s I enjoyed their version of Putenesca. Very flavorful with generous portion of scallops and shrimp pasta perfectly done. Grilled tuna and scallops as appetizers were excellent. We sat on the patio and as the sun set it felt ‘dark’ candles on the tables would be a nice touch outside. Trattoria Gusto is one of our favorites when in the area and we will be back. Well done!
